How can you live in Bali – residency requirements:

The tourist visa issued before arrival is valid 60 days but if it is issued on arrival at the airport it is only valid for 30 days. In both cases it is renewable once for 30 days only.
French pensioners over 55 years old can apply for a retirement visa to stay for a long time.

Housing in Bali:

Only an Indonesian citizen can own land in Indonesia, but it is possible to legally circumvent this law with the assistance of a competent notary or lawyer.

Taxation:

Concerning the taxation, it depends on the tax agreement between your country and Indonesia. It is this agreement that defines the criteria to be taken into account in determining the country where your tax domicile is located.
